The vehicles sold at Hertz Car Sales locations come from different sources. The majority of vehicles are late models which have been carefully selected from either the rental fleet of the Hertz Corporations ("Hertz") or other Hertz companies, such as: Dollar Rent-a-Car, Thrifty Rental, Donlen, or Hertz Equipment Rental Corporation. Some of the vehicles have been traded-in by Hertz Car Sales customers; others have been purchased from a variety of sources, such as dealers, private sellers, and auctions. While Hertz works hard to procure quality vehicles, Hertz may not be aware of the vehicle's full history. Nonetheless, only the vehicles that meet Hertz quality standards make it to the Hertz Car Sales inventory.

Yes, click "View Saved Cars" at the top of the page and sign-up with your email. While looking at cars, click the heart icon and they'll be saved to your account.

To check the recall status of a specific vehicle, go to https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls and enter the vehicle's Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). You can find the VIN for any vehicle by looking from outside the vehicle at where the dashboard meets the windshield on the driver's side. This will also be available on your vehicle's registration.

A safety recall occurs when a manufacturer or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) finds that a defect that could affect the safety or operation of a vehicle may exist in a specific vehicle or series of vehicles. The manufacturer notifies its authorized dealers, repair facilities, and the registered vehicle owners of the condition or defect so that the registered owners can take the vehicle to the authorized dealer or repair facility for diagnosis and repair.

Taxes, title/registration fees and documentation fees vary from state to state. Taxes and title/registration fees may also vary depending upon your location and will be estimated at the time of sale. When the Department of Motor Vehicles in your state reviews the documentation, they will determine a final amount for fees and taxes. If you paid more than the amount due, the excess will be refunded to you. If you paid less than the amount due, you will be responsible for the difference. Documentation fees are included in the advertised price in some states and will not be an additional charge. Following are the states in which a documentation fee will be payable in addition to the advertised price:

Warranty & Plans

All our Hertz Certified vehicles are given a 115-point inspection and include a 12-month/12,000-mile (whichever comes first) limited powertrain warranty.

Yes. Every vehicle comes with a 12-month/12,000-mile warranty, whichever comes first.

Vehicle protection plans offer additional protection that lasts beyond our warranty. Three coverage levels provide short-term and long-term plans for various budgets.

Total Loss Protection will cover the difference between what you still owe on your car loan and what the insurance provider pays out if your vehicle is stolen or deemed a total loss.

Pre-Paid Maintenance helps you stay on track with vehicle service based on the manufacturer's guidelines. Term lengths range from 2 to 6 years, and you have the option of conventional or synthetic oil changes.

Technology Coverage provides protection against the failure of specific vehicle technologies, including advanced driver assistance systems, audio/visual systems, and accessories. If something were to go wrong with these systems, they'd be repaired or replaced. A $100 deductible does apply.

Hertz is currently not providing copies of maintenance records. You can view the inspection sheet and a vehicle history report at the dealership.


Home Delivery

In most states, yes. When viewing a car, click "Request Home Delivery" and fill out the online form. A salesperson will be in contact with you shortly. We will mail all the necessary documents to your home via FedEx. You can choose to come to the dealership to pick-up your vehicle, or have your car delivered via home delivery.

Home delivery is a convenient way to purchase your next car from the comfort of your home. Complete the necessary paperwork to purchase your car at home, then schedule your delivery to your house, work, or a mutual meeting place.

Yes, if you purchased your car from home, let the salesperson know you'll be coming in to pick it up.

After you complete the necessary paperwork from home, let your salesperson know you want your car delivered. They will schedule your car to be delivered within a few days of the purchase.

To complete your purchase, you may be required to provide any or all of the following:

  • Valid driver's license
  • Proof of insurance
  • Proof of income
  • Proof of residence
  • Proof of phone

Additional documentation may also be required. Please contact a Hertz Car Sales sales consultant in your state for a full list.

Your down payment is due at the time of purchase. If you decide the car isn't right for you, you can choose to return the vehicle under our Hertz Buy Back Guarantee.

If you are financing your vehicle, the lender will hold onto the title until you've paid off the financing in full. If you pay cash for your car, the title will be mailed to you in 2-6 weeks.


Buy Back Guarantee

You can return your vehicle within 7 days or 250 miles after your purchase, whichever comes first. Bring it back and pay the difference for a higher priced vehicle or we'll refund you.

Your vehicle will be checked for any damage and wear. The repurchase price will be the amount paid to purchase the vehicle. A cleaning and recertification fee of $200 will be deducted (unless prohibited by law), as well as any excess wear or damage to the vehicle.

It is an innovative program launched by Hertz Car Sales with the purpose of selling high-quality, active rental cars online at very competitive prices. Hertz Rent2Buy® provides customers with the opportunity to test the vehicle for 3 full days by renting it at a low special rate, which will be waived if the car is purchased.

Hertz Rent2Buy® is not a "Rent to Own" program.

With Rent2Buy, Hertz has focused on making the used car buying experience simpler. We have eliminated the middleman, so you are protected from the haggle process. By reducing these costs, Rent2Buy has been able to transfer savings to the customer and offer high-quality, well-equipped used cars at great prices; often well under Kelley's Blue Book Suggested Retail Value. Furthermore, Hertz believes that peace of mind should come at no extra cost. That's why every car sold through Rent2Buy to retail customers is backed with a 12-month/12,000-mile limited powertrain warranty, and a 7-day or 250-mile Buy Back Guarantee.

Hertz Rent2Buy® streamlined the buying process and took the hassle out of buying a used car, plus added peace of mind to the formula.

Reserve your car online for a 3-day Test-Rental, at a special daily rate of $65/day for vehicles priced less than $35,000 and $95/day for vehicles priced more than $35,0001.

If you decide not to purchase the car, there are no strings attached, simply return it to Hertz and pay for the rental charges.

Information on the site is constantly being updated. The mileage listed is the most recent update since the last rental. However, if a vehicle is out on rental the mileage posted is the latest mileage recorded at the time of the prior return.

Since these are active rental vehicles, unfortunately we cannot guarantee the car will be available for you to check prior to making a reservation. Placing a reservation ensures that the car will be pulled from the fleet, prepared and made available for you. The reservation is an appointment you set to check the vehicle you are interested in. Upon arrival at the location please proceed to the counter and identify yourself as a Rent2Buy customer. The Counter Service Representative will walk you to your vehicle. Please check out the car before you sign the rental agreement. If the vehicle does not meet your expectations, there is no need to open the rental agreement.

In order to participate in the Hertz Rent2Buy®, you must reside in one of these states, or you are required to take delivery of the vehicle and complete the purchase in one of these states. If you do not live in one of these states, we apologize for the temporary inconvenience; a dedicated team is working diligently to open operations in new states.

Hertz offers competitive financing options. Hertz Rent2Buy® works hard to make your car buying experience as effortless as possible. To facilitate your purchase, Hertz has partnered with several financial institutions to offer customers competitive financing options for almost every budget. You will be provided the option to complete an online credit application once you have picked up your vehicle and clicked the "Purchase Car" link. Hertz Rent2Buy® financing specialists are available to guide you through the process.

You can only charge up to $3,000 of the down payment on a debit or credit card at select locations.4 However, we provide financing solutions for almost every budget. Other acceptable forms of payment include: Certified Check or Wire Transfer. No bank draft checks are accepted.

Hertz Rent2Buy® is not a "Rent to Own" program. Hertz Rent2Buy® provides customers with the opportunity to feel the ownership of the car through a 3-day test rental. This test period will help our customers make the best decision towards purchasing the car, unlike traditional used car sales.

MasterCard, Carte Blanche, Diners Club, Discover, JCB, Visa, Optima, Amex, China Union Pay Acceptable form of payment via the internet is limited to major credit cards (Debit cards and Hertz Credit Cards are not accepted) or credit card information contained in the Hertz Gold Plus Rewards profile.

At many Hertz locations, debit cards issued under a VISA or MasterCard logo which draw funds directly from the cardholder's account may be used to qualify for rental. However, there are exceptions to this general policy as debit cards are not accepted at the outset of a rental to qualify for non-Hertz Plus Gold Rewards member rentals in the New York Metropolitan Tri-State Area and the areas of Hartford, CT, Philadelphia, PA, Boston, MA and Detroit, MI. Also, debit cards are not accepted to qualify for non-Hertz Plus Gold Rewards member rentals to customers under 25 years of age at Hertz Off-Airport locations. However, prepaid or stored value cards which have a VISA or MasterCard logo are not accepted to qualify for rental. When a debit card is accepted as form of payment, at the start of the rental, two (2) forms of identification must be presented. Debit Cards must have available funds for the estimated amount of the rental charges and any additional charges that may be incurred. Both debit cards and prepaid or stored value cards issued under a VISA or MasterCard logo may be used as a form of payment when you return the vehicle.

The credit scoring process performed through the services of Equifax are very similar to the type of credit checks that are done when a person applies for credit. This credit check is done at the rental location when you arrive.

On most test rentals, the minimum age is 25 without an additional Age Differential Charge, and 21 with an additional Age Differential Charge.

Hertz will test rent selected car class vehicles (Prestige Collection and high-performance cars such as Corvettes and Shelby Mustangs excluded) to customers who are age 21-24 with an Age Differential Charge, in addition to the normal rental rate.

Most car classes will require a $15 per day surcharge, while higher end cars may require a $25 per day surcharge. See the counter representative for details

Various corporate accounts have agreements with Hertz which permit employees of those companies, between the ages of 21-24, to rent for business purposes. Hertz Rent2Buy® will honor these age exceptions if you test rent a vehicle. Renters must present a valid Corporate Identification Card at the time of test rental and additional fees may apply. Please contact your company travel department to verify age exceptions when test renting a vehicle.


Reservations

There's no need to return the car.2 Simply log on to your account, go to My Test Rental and click on the Purchase car link within 3 days after your pickup. You will be contacted by your Sale Processing Representative who will guide you through the sales process. You can also contact your Sales Representative at any time at 888-674-3309.

Login to your account, click on My Test Rental List, and cancel your reservation. To help us provide our customers with the best service possible, we appreciate it if you would describe the reason for your cancellation.

Prices of all cars displayed on the website are valid through the date listed with the price disclosures. Once that date expires, prices are subject to change, based upon current market conditions. These changes will not affect you if you have placed a reservation or are test-renting a car at the time the price change occurs.

In many states, we will be able to handle the document exchange using FedEx. However, in some states, state laws make it necessary for you to come to Hertz's licensed location to sign the sales documents. Customers are required to go one of the following licensed locations for their state as listed below:

Neverlost units are not for sale. Once you decide to purchase the vehicle, your Sales Processing Representative will make arrangements to un-mount the Neverlost unit.

1. Base daily rental rates are subject to change. The base daily rental rate quoted above applies for standard rental vehicles. Higher base rental rates apply for vehicles priced over $35,000. The base daily rental rate applies only to time and mileage charges. Hertz age driver, and credit qualifications for the renting location apply. Taxes, tax reimbursement, age differential charges, fees and optional service charges such as refueling are additional, and are not included in the base daily rental rate. If you purchase the vehicle, you will not have to pay any rental charges, except for any optional service charges you accepted. If there is a delay in making payment for the vehicle or completing any required paperwork, you could be asked to return it until payment is made or required documents are provided.

2. State laws in Iowa, Kansas, Mississippi, Nevada, New Jersey, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington and South Carolina require you to come to Hertz's licensed location to sign the sales and any financing documents and/or pick up your license plates.

3. A Rent2Buy Limited Warranty is provided to retail customers only. The period of the warranty is 12 months/12,000 miles, whichever occurs first, or such greater amount as may be required by law, or for vehicles identified on the Car Sales site as Hertz Certified Vehicles, 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever occurs first.
